What is 1099-DA?

The full name is "Form 1099-DA: Digital Asset Proceeds From Broker Transactions." It's designed to report the sale, exchange, or other disposition of digital assets by a broker on behalf of a customer.

What information is on 1099-DA

Some of the data fields include:

Name of the digital asset (e.g. Bitcoin, Ethereum)

Number of units sold, acquisition date and disposition date (if known)

Gross proceeds from the transaction

Cost basis, if the broker has it or is required to report it (in later years)

If any federal income tax was withheld (backup withholding)

Additional checkboxes for special types of digital assets (e.g. NFTs, stablecoins)

Step 1: Add a new 1099-DA form

Start ez1099 software, select the recipient and click the Add Form button

Step 2: Enter 1099-DA form information

Enter form details. if you have questions, you can also check Form 1099-DA Instructions at https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1099da.pdf

If you are ready to print form, you can click the "SAVE" button to save your changes first and click the "PRINT" button to view print options.

Single form printing: Print forms for current payee only

If you are ready to print form, you can click the "SAVE" button to save your changes first and click the "PRINT" button to view print options.

White paper printing
- You can print form on white paper
- Or you can fill data on pre-printed forms by choosing data only option for copy A

Fill in data on pre-printed form
The Red-ink form is optional. If you prefer to use the pre-print forms, please choose the "Data only" option.

PDF files
You can click the "PRINT TO PDF" button to print recipient copies into PDF files. However, this feature is only available for advanced version.

Multiple forms printing

If you need to print multiple IRS copies for different recipients at once, please close the current form first. Then, click "Print Multiple Forms" from the top menu. Learn more at how to multiple copies of 1099s form at the same time

Step 4: eFile 1099s and 1096 (Optional)

The FIRE system will not support Form 1099-DA (Digital Asset Proceeds). Please use the new built-in direct eFile service to submit forms to the IRS IRIS system.
